The National Agricultural Marketing and Development Corporation (NAMDEVCO), began the distribution of food baskets on May 7, 2021 to the 41 MP offices throughout the nation. To date, 50,000 food baskets inclusive of fresh produce, two locally processed chickens and half dozen eggs, have been delivered and impacted 25,000 families.

A partnership with Prestige Holdings Ltd (PHL) has been forged to increase the capacity of the food relief distribution services, through use of their cold storage refrigerated trucks. This public-private partnership would ensure transportation efficiencies and mobilize employees of PHL, specifically the drivers and loaders, during this time when restaurants are closed.

We will like to thank the management team at Prestige Holdings Ltd, for being a good corporate citizen as this plays an important part of the success of the company. The PHL brands KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway, TGIF & Starbucks branded trucks will be put in service from this Wednesday, July 7th to assist in the transportation of the food baskets to all MP offices.

Over the next few weeks, an additional 25,000 families in all 41 constituencies, who are not recipients of support from the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, food card or other support programmes, will receive these NAMDEVCO food baskets.

“Against a background of limited resources, innovative public-private partnerships that bring together businesses and Government are increasingly important for improving productivity and making an impact,” said Nirmalla Debysingh-Persad, CEO, NAMDEVCO. The food basket programme is carded to continue till September to meet the needs of affected citizens and will ensure the supply of high-quality, fresh, safe and nutritious food from farmers to NAMDEVCO, for the programme.
